SITUATION:

Training in the North Florida Council of the BSA was among some of the lowest numbers in the country. The NFC Executive Board wanted to see these numbers increased to be at least as high as the BSA national average.

TASK:

Attend the Master Trainer Conference at the Philmont Training Center and then develop and implement a plan to improve training numbers throughout the council.

ACTIONS:

Attended the T-3 Conference in 2014. Using information learned at that conference, including best practices and innovative training delivery methods, we developed a new Training improvement plan for the council that included on-demand in-person training opportunities, and youth-led adult training events and implemented a schedule to maximize district-level training events so everyone could share in the load as well as the benefits of multiple training opportunities.

RESULTS:

In the first year, training levels increased to above the BSA national average. By year three of the plan we had become one of the highest percentage trained councils in the BSA.
